MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: RebeccaMich - Photographer / Graphic Artist / GGBB Badass

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG
This time we are nailing
RebeccaMich

When I met RebeccaMich we were walking with friends in Royal Oak and we pulled into Gusoline Alley for a few drinks...as we started to chat I knew right away that this was someone we needed to pull into MCB

It didn't take long before she was shooting shows
and banging out artwork and posters for MCB events

Contributing in more ways than you think
she IS a total badass and will take one for the team

As a member of MCB's Good Girls Being Bad
she can do no wrong and we got her backside at all times

RebeccaMich is a Detroit native who takes great pride in the talent that has and continues to come out of her hometown city. Working with MOTORCITYBLOG for over year covering shows ranging from world-famous DJs to local rockers, she has been able to rediscover her interest in art, music and all things Detroit from a new perspective.
As a Graphic Designer, Rebecca has also contributed to MCB
by creating promotional posters and logo designs.
Oh, and she's a total badass.
Rebecca enjoys working alongside the wide range of talent within MOTORCITYBLOG
and appreciates how much each contributor is able to learn from one another.
Personally, she finds that providing artists as well as audiences
with a positive Detroit-experience is the most rewarding.
Keep your eyes peeled as RebeccaMich is currently working on commissioned projects for local events
and continues to photograph and document the happenings around town for MCB

Check her out here at
and then at The Crofoot on Feb 13th 2010

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: Shane Glenn

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

This is Shane Glenn.

I met Shane for some beers and sushi on Christmas Eve 2008.

It seemed like an odd time to meet up to talk about MCB but after a few beers and a lengthy discussion, Shane was in as a contributor and raring to go.

At the time he was shooting for Real Detroit, Ambassador Mag, DetroitCity.com among others and after a year on board he has covered more shows with MCB than he did for all those others combined x 10.

We started joking between each other that Shane really had a twin brother and that was the only possible way he could cover so much ground covering shows.

But the truth is simply Shane is a professional who takes some amazing photos.

Check his work at:

shaneglenn.com

flickr

and give him a shout if you need a top quality shooter.

A good example about Shane would be tonight when he is covering 5 shows starting with Lissie @ Fillmore Detroit, then heads over Breaking Benjamin at Joe Louis Arena - a short stop at MCB5 at Music Hall followed by White Mystery @ Lager and finally hitting Alvin's for the Hentchman show....this guy is a machine and has been a welcome addition to MCB!

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: Brett Lawrence of LAWRENCEcreative

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG
this time its Brett Lawrence
whose first assignment for MCB was covering DEMF 2008
since then he has proven to be one of the most dedicated
and hard working contributors and forget about his mad skills
A big thanks to Brett for being part of the MCB

LAWRENCEcreative is Brett J. Lawrence

a local Photographer and Graphic Designer hailing from Suburbia, Detroit.

Shooting everything from Portraits and Architecture to Urbex,

Concert/Event Photography has really become his favorite subject since joining MCB back in 2008. With a studio in the heart of Detroit, located at the Russell Industrial Complex, Brett does everything he can to support Detroit and the many facets of the City.

When asked:

"Why spend your time shooting for MCB if Kirk is too much of a tightwad to even pay you?"

He replied:
"How else am I gonna be able to get all liquored up on ice cold PBR and photograph kick-ass concerts and invite-only events for free? It's not like I have the charisma of Eric Estrada to con my way in the door or the physique of Matthew McConaughey to offer sexual favors to pull off that shit. A fella does what a fella's gotta do, right?"

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: Nardo from NAVDO hooking it for MCB

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

What can we say about our buddy Nardo?
He loves music - is from Detroit - lives in Austin
and kicks some ass and is a welcome addition to MCB
Example
tonight MCB is video interviewing a local detroit rapper
at the DIA for Rolling Stone - thats Nardo.....
he will soon be producing a column for MCB
called "Hangin' with Nardo"

Home Town:
Royal Oak (Metro Detroit)
Born in 1974

interests:
music and love
what I do:
Producer/Composer/Promoter/PR

Nardo began his music passion through instruments, like many of us do. He learned the basics (guitar, programming and synthesizers mostly) and even put a few bands (Le Ren and The Chocolate Thunder Experience) together. Thus his musical journey led him to Los Angeles for a few years, where he fine-tuned Navdo and started helping out talented friends with their musical ventures, as well as his. Nardo now resides in Austin, Texas where he is promoting local and national artists and still keeping his hands in Detroit music as well!

Established in 1997 and originating from Detroit, Michigan

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: "Wild Bill" Ketelhut

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

Wild Bill writes the MCB weekly "Wild at Heart"

A few years ago as MCB was covering more and more ground
we kept running into "Wild Bill"
and after some wooing from the MCB girls
he hastily joined our team

Bill is one of the coolest guys around
knows everything there is to know about music and detroit
and hits more shows than the indiest of hipsters

Shown above with MCB's Tall Kiwi Chick
they don't call him "Wild Bill" for nothing
if you know what I'm saying

I, William R Ketelhut (aka Wild Bill) was born in the year 1969 which is known for Woodstock and Man On The Moon which explains my passion for music and science fiction/fact. I also share birthdays with Swedishfilm director Lukas Moodysson and DJ Tiesto, the Dutch trance DJ. I enjoy working with Motorcityblog since it gives me another outlet for talking about and sharing my passion with what goes on in the city of Detroit, including it's art, music, museums, theatre, sports and other events. I include a calendar of events I plan on attending in my calendar at www.myspace.com/wildatheart_13 and I would love for people to listen to my radio show on WXOU 88.3FM which can be heard online at www.wxou.org (currently on from 8-10AM on Saturday mornings with a variety of music and interviews - a list of past interviews is on my homepage). If you would like to share events or set up an interview for the blog or radioshow, contact me at doramu13@yahoo.com or 248-475-0808 and we'll see what we can set up.

I also have a long standing crush on Cyndi Lauper!!

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: DC-in-Detroit

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

rare photo of DC-in-Detroit
DC has been contributing to MCB for a few years now and we love her

DC-in-Detroit is one of the post-internet breed of renaissance characters who can crank out a 400-word article before breakfast, but has no idea how to boil an egg.

She's FCC licensed, published with real ink on paper, has hand-made two corsets, spent the night in Lizzie Borden's bedroom, and is a winner of the Pepsi Challenge.

She's still a better driver than you are, even when she's had twice as much to drink.

And if you ask nicely, she'll probably take you home.

You've most likely met her, but you either immediately forgot who she was, or you dreamed about her for four nights in a row.

DC has to do the math every time someone asks how old she is. And yet the boys at the liquor store still do a double-take every time they card her.

Her highest ambition is to become an adjective:

"It's positively DC-esque."

She suffers from attention surplus disorder: "The easiest thing in the world for me is to pay attention," she says. The hardest thing, for the record, is remembering what just happened.

DC is a longtime contributor to the MCB

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: John Kalegarekos - creator of SLAW (Something Like A War) w/ Evans and English

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

Evans and English are the stars

of MCB's semi weekly comic strip

Read more about Something Like A War creator John Kalogerakos here

John K's mind at work

Hey everyone, it is your buddy English.
I am here to tell you about the man who draws me and Evans, John Kalogerakos.
Now originally Evans was going to do this, but this is what he wrote
"John Kalogerakos is a life long Detroiter, a hairdresser, and a Wayne state student studying to get degrees in English and Graphic Design. Along with Something Like A War, John also has a trice weekly webcomic called Pointe East that can be read every Mon-Wed-Fri at http://www.pointe-east.com and he is always excited to hear any and all feedback you have. He can be reached at jekalog@gmail.com."

I mean really Evans, REALLY?!?!
With out John you would have no voice.
You would be a simple lifeless blob in the back of a thought somewhere.

John saved me.
Here I was, the mighty English; scourge of the evil doers and the lame alike, working part time at as an professional mime. I was so bad at getting attention, couldn't even get that as a full time gig, and to top it off no one paid any attention to me!
then one day, John saw my promise, he held the eraser in his left hand, but in his right was my salvation, the pencil. with a few strokes form that mighty right hand
(That sounds a lot dirtier then I planned)
I was given a voice.
those first words are still with me and I'll never forget them.
They were "What the fuck is this?"
That my dear reader, is why I, the star of SLAW, bow at the feet of my maker....
all hail John Kalogerakos!
Hi there readers of MCB
I am Evans
and the views expressed above are only those of English.
I tend to think john is ok, but I'm not gonna go all brown nose.
And besides, I know who butters my bread,
without Kirk telling John to actually do a comic, nothing would ever get done,
he is the one worth bowing to and I appreciate you reading the MCB and SLAW
-Evans, the REAL star of SLAW

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: Downunder Detroit with Tall Kiwi Chicks Tasha and Lauretta

As we ease into 2010 keep your eye open for our latest addition to MCB
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES !!!
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG
kicking it all off is a little background in the Tall Kiwi Chicks from New Zealand
who will be heading to PJ's Lager House tomorrow night
to "interview" each of the bands on the bill
so if you see then stop and say hello
buy them a drink
and chat them up a bit Detroit style
make them feel like they never want to leave the motorcity

Tall Kiwi Chick & Lauretta West have been working to the bare minimum digging Downunder Detroit After winning some tickets to MOBY and meeting up with a few of the MCB crew they were determined to get in on the action....Here in the USA on special assignment they needed something to do in their downtime here in Detroit to keep them in tune with what was happening around town. Downunder Detroit was created to provide a kiwi's point of view on life in the motorcity.

They do it in hopes of meeting some hot musicians to make out with and all the obvious perks of working for MCB. They get off on hot music and guys offering to buy them drinks and much much more

check them out here

MCB-CONTRIBUTOR-PROFILES: Andrew Bender

time for another of our
MCB CONTRIBUTOR PROFILES
where we feature the folks who are running the streets for MOTORCITYBLOG

Drew joined up with the MCB a little over a year ago and has brought a wide range of skills to the table covering the depths of detroit - his love for music and good times is a perfect fit with the rest of the crew and as you can tell he is the life of the party

Thanks for being part of the MCB bud!

Andrew Bender is an overworked masochist with a penchant for good whiskey, jam bands, improvisational and roots music, and smart women. When he's not researching the brain, memory, or aging and working toward his PhD in psychology and cognitive neuroscience, Drew (as his friends call him) can be found, camera in hand, shooting various patchouli-scented musicians around Detroit, and writing off-color stories about his experiences.

His MCB column, "Music on the Brain," has been on hiatus but rumor has it will be starting up again soon with new brains and new music.

WERD!

She has created blogs and websites for many of the early detroit / ann arbor artists which has unearthed tons of photos and video and discussion about the early music scene
MCB got a facelift thanks to RK and plus she hangs with one of the icons of Detroit music
