Wild At Heart

Had a great week with our Jazzfest where I saw 58 different performers over a 9 day festival. Highlights including amazing sets by Dr John, the Dr Lonnie Smith Trio, British saxophonist Yolanda Brown, clarinetist Anat Cohen, Norway's artistic Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Jacob Karlzon 3, Cuba's Alfredo Rodriguez Trio and a great David Byrne/St Vincent show. They are wonderful together and Byrne always puts on a great show. I saw him a few years ago at the Michigan Theatre which was a great show. This show should be equally fun and St Vincent adds a unique energy to his quirkiness. They have a great band backing them and this should be a must see show. Now the Rochester Jazzfest is different from the Detroit Festival by bring in more experimental and foreign jazz artists as well as some big paid shows. One of the nice things is finding that amazing new artists and this year there was one stand-out. Korean singer Youn Sun Nah joined Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius for the most amazing set of the festival as her voice captivated the minds and souls of the audience playing to two packed shows with large lines hoping to get in to even hear one song. If these guys even play in the Detroit area, make sure to track them down for what might be the best concert of the year. I am including a video which doesn't begin to come close to how beautiful this show really was live but please take the time to check out more of this wonderful artist.
